Revisiting a lost dream under a backyard plum tree.

Revisiting a lost dream under a backyard plum tree.

I am sending a lament for the days of sitting under the shady plum tree in our back yard. One could idle away the hours shelling peas, crocheting squares or daydreaming about the magic faraway tree.
All while sitting in a comfy deck chair. To drift by under its shady canopy, while looking over to the lesser species of the damson plum tree that never quite measured up. Time moves on and daydreaming days have never quite found that mystical faraway place again.
Also I admit to having never completed that crochet rug!

'Easter not your typical love story'.

New Energies at Willunga Uniting Church
This April our faith community continues with many programs for all ages.
There are gatherings for guys and girls, evergreens and walkers.
Plus many opportunities to expand horizons with the arts, music and voice.
Activities are held on site at Willunga Uniting Church.
But also in homes and our streets and beaches.
We have recently celebrated our Easter day using the theme:
'Easter not your typical love story'.
We are also blessed by new people, new energies and new hopes.

Every generation improves on the last.

Home can be the battleground of the broom.
Teenagers/young adults get a lot of bad press. (advertiser March 6th)
Every generation improves on the last.
They are my 'go to' tech whizzes.
They are smart, savvy and adventurous.
They also pull their weight without lots of cumbersome instructions.
Can cook and are independent in getting places.
It is sometimes the previous (male) generation who excel in avoidance!

Somehow animals who suffer are not counted.

As a mother I have found I am not living one life but five, as I encompass all my family and beyond.
One can only hope that there is more compassion for our shared humanity as families including our beloved animals.
Attempts were made in the article, Puppy Love, to minimize suffering in puppy farms. (Puppy Love 9/3/13)
Somehow animals who suffer are not counted.
Animals are important.
A ban on animal testing used in cosmetic products has taken effect in the European Union.
A new pope, a Jesuit, carries the hopes of our world and of St Francis - the patron saint of animals.
We need more love in the world.
Starting with recognition of how much animals give us unconditionally.

Weaving in and out of construction zones in Adelaide, March 2013.

The city skyline is awash with white and orange meccano like structures reaching out.

As I drive down West Terrace and approach North Terrace I see six thin metal long ladders straight into the air with a right angle cross bar.

Following on down North Terrace I turn into King William, heading towards North Adelaide and more metal ladders into the sky.

If I backtrack I have passed massive earth movers trundling about by the side of the expressway.

Loud machines are cracking rocks and filling up tip trucks and taking it all somewhere else.

Bridges are pulled into skeletal remains.

While we weave in and out of speed zones.

There are empty railway stations as new tracks are laid out.

Big boxy buses whizz on by.

A new concrete set of blocks has stretched out high across the Onkaparinga river.

Not aesthetically pleasing among the natural wonders of the river beds.

But we consider progress is being made.

Transport to and from the city will float along this bridge and that emerging dual expressway.

To and from the big hospitals and stadiums.

Beauty can be so elusive, perhaps we can add that bit in later.
