Don't worry, be melancholy - says Phillip Adams - an interesting speaker at the next 'Happiness and its Causes' conference. I would love to go, but it is quite pricey.
I was at another conference - somewhere - and a speaker pointed out that 'the human mind is continually trying to talk its way out of happiness. I now recall it was the Spirituality & Health conference -due again in 2011, hopefully.
John Barrymore (the actor) also said 'Happiness sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open.' ie Don't look too hard and it might find you.
For me this is the key - it is a moment that you cannot manufacture - lest you be made to pay again and again ie addictions to...almost everything.
Had a nice pennisula platter at Chrystina's on High Street - don't have to travel far on this humid autumn day - sounds like it is staying that way for a while.
Frustrating week at work, I had the dregs of a head cold and it was a real effort.
Contemplating going part time to do more things I love - as opposed to have to - with people I love - as opposed to made to.
Finished 'Solar' - Tales of a shambolic, obese, self absorbed, plagurist, nobel prize winning scientist and his many exploits on both sides of the law - a fine read, not having read any others of this author I would recommend it - a wonderful take on life on page 225 - about how he thinks he should have life all worked out by now - but nothing is.
Should read the Lacuna next but there are quite a few waiting for it in the library system.
Will check Doubleday price.
To follow up various school projects, phone accounts and license issues with children.
