A Proclamation

My lament for Adelaide is the old woman who keeps all her clothes and possessions in a locked cupboard for ‘good occasions’. The ‘old woman’ is anyone stuck in the past, age indeterminate. Afraid to get out the good china, open up the parklands, travel new streets, try new routines. How long did it take to get an AFL footy team, a world class entertainment venue, a central sports stadium? The old woman is so cautious she dare not open up that cupboard.

My proclamation is for the old woman to lift up her skirts and get out the boxes of good linen, china and silver and actually use it! Make its history vivid, not a staid set of dates on the calendar.

Art on every street. Green on every street. A café on every street(!) The festival state has wings, not just in February and March. Ideas and music written large.

It can happen.
